This legally
consolidated 2-acre lot offers two acres of natural lava
garden on the slopes of Mauna Loa overlooking South Point,
the southernmost point in the US. It is located at the 4000'
elevation within
Ocean View, less than a mile from Hawai'i
Volcanoes National Park, in an area with a matchless climate
& sweeping coastline views. In every direction, the lay of
the land creates vistas that capture your creative
imagination. The rapid comings and goings of the clouds are
a playful feature of the lively sky, the clouds often moving
in 2 or 3 directions at once, below you as well as above.
Night skies are clear & stunning. Climate? Hospitable &
invigorating year-round. Summer days rarely exceed 80°,
though the sun can feel intense. Winter nights often drop
into the 40's. Woodstove country, but it takes precious
little wood to make a small house snug. Most of the rain
comes by the bucketful in a few storms, disappearing
instantly into the porous rock. Few of the creepy-crawlies
and pesky flyers found in the lowlands venture this far
upslope. You can be outdoors and grow a wide variety of
fruits & vegetables in every season. The entire lot is
untouched, tawny pahoehoe lava, approximately 970 years old,
frozen into pillows, channels, bubbles, and tubes. Unlike
the sharp, clinkery a'a lava, pahoehoe is readily walkable.
Beauty can be found in the lava formations studded with
young ohia trees and other indigenous plants. Misty days
evoke unexpected colors in the rock, & reveal lichens & moss
at home. Public power is available, but for those wanting to
be off-grid the site is suitable for a wind generator or PV
panels.
Power is nearby on the road. Buyer & Buyer's agent to
investigate service with HELCO. Very limited CCRs.
Directions. From Kona: Turn left at Aloha Blvd. to Lurline
Ln. Left on Lurline go 2-blocks, cross over Hukilau Dr. Lot
will be the 3rd lot on your left. Watch for my Sign. It is a
joy to walk around this wildly interesting lot, but to fully
enjoy it, be sure to wear sturdy shoes. There are hills and
valleys, trails and pukas everywhere. When you are finished
call me to write an offer before someone else grabs this
awesome opportunity.
